<![CDATA[The night started with a sleepy set from Big Sky, not much to write about, just your average drone band. The Pink Snowflakes were explosive! Totally destroying the comfortable fuzz-haze left over from the previous band. It was a massacre. Voyager One stepped up next. The best part of their set was the guy running visuals: Five film Projectors, a couple slide projectors, a DVD projector and creative use of it all. The music was pretty good, but the projections would have been better suited to the Pink Snowflakes set.

<![CDATA[Now, I don't want to name names, so let's just call this club owner "Napoleon". You own a bar in Portland. Portland rules, but you do not. This ain't Hollywood, L.A., Vegas, or NYC, its Portland. And Portland is one helluva laid back city. You don't own the Crystal Ballroom, or the Roseland, or any other club that would be considered a "pinnacle" of a rock club here. You own a wanna-be hipster bar, which is even worse than an actual hipster bar. We get to the club and start setting up and Napoleon is already throwing his weight around and acting tough for no reason. He asks to see everyone's ID, and the first band begins to explain to him that they have a substitute guitarist that night who is under-age. Oregon state law does NOT prevent under-age people from playing in bars, you just have to get out of the bar when you are not on-stage. Napoleon's response to this news was to flip the hell out in front of (what little) patrons were at the bar, yelling and cussing that he "doesn't play that shit". The band was honest with him, and there's no law preventing an under-ager from playing, but no. Not in Napoleon's world. His mighty wanna-be hipster fist of self-righteousness ruled that the first band could "get the fuck out of here! You ain't playing tonight!" Not sure what just happened, or why it happened, we regrouped and spoke with the headlining band (a band that we have played with many times before) to discuss the new line up, when Napoleon busts out of the back room like he's the kool-aid man and proclaims for all the bar to hear: "(insert band name here), GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE! You don't appreciate what we have to offer, then fuck you guys! Get the fuck out, you ain't playing tonight! You're fired!" Why was it necessary to fire the headlining band?
