Especially for the price !!! Finally a place with great food and a fun but none pretentious atmosphere. This is a place I'd take my mother for Sunday brunch every week and some tines on Saturday !!!!
total 180 here folks. This nice Portland eatery had my respect back in the day. I mean, what other place in Portland can you go to after clubbing? Beyond 24 Hotcake House on Powell (which is good at a late hour) there's not much selection.

If you are open late, especially after 2am, make sure to hire some cooks who are passionate about their craft. Note I don't use the term "chef" here

The golden days of Montage brought about laughter and unique entrees like green eggs and ham, tasty mac and cheese and a rich chocolate cake that satisfied my sweet tooth. Oh yeah, I always enjoyed the animal shaped "to go" packaging, always a winner.

Now, back to reality. I waited outside one evening after dancing at Envy (trashy, I know) but there's not much to eat at that hour so we swoop by Montage for a quick bite. Ok, the usual wait is expected, the door was open and loud chattering filled the air. Once inside the mood was chill but then came the food...

Now was it the jambalaya or gumbo? It was one of those two but let me tell you what came out (people from Louisiana I'm sorry but this is an embarrassment).

You "cooks" neglected to watch the temperature. I understand it's 2-3am and you've got a loud crowd of hung over clubbers but do yourself a favor and concentrate on what you're doing.
You fucking burned my order and left the black ooze swirling in a thick puddle. Yeah, I saw the sausage and okra but the unappetizing funk you brought before me was unbearable.

Were you too busy flirting with the waitstaff or in between smoke breaks / high on drugs? What an absolute effrontery to serve the black lagoon to my face. You should be fired. Bring back the real "cooks / chefs" who care about the food. Are you doing this just to bring in income while you dream about playing at sold out concerts with babes clawing at your hairy chest? fuck, you probably are.

Bring back the Montage I love. The few places that are open that late have a loyal following. Montage used to be on my good side. so sad....

This place sucks! My boyfriend and I had not been out in a long time and for some reason chose this place to begin our night. After a ridiculous wait and being told "15 minutes" for over 2 hours, we were finally seated. About 2 mintues later, the "friendly" busser dropped an entire oyster shooter down the back of my new white shirt. She didn't even notice or at least pretended she didn't. I was speechless so my boyfriend informed her of what she had just done, and she said, "oh, do you want a paper towel" I asked her to please remove the oyster shells that were now wedged between my back and the back of the chair, and after first denying they were even there, she finally did. She was "polite" enough to bring me a damp paper towel. Had she even pretended to be sorry, it wouldn't have been so bad, but sadly that was not the case. We also attempted to order cheesecake. The menu said ask your server for the type of the day. We did and we were told it was lemon. However, when it arrived, it was not lemon. As our server set the plate down, she remarked, "oh that doesn't look like lemon, I think it is strawberry" as she walked away. Good thing we like strawberry.

I've gone here once and I'm not a big fan. I had the mac and cheese (passable) and a miller high life. You sit with strangers and have a chance to chat. I sat next to high schoolers from the 'burbs trying out the Portland scene. On the plus side, if you leave your table to take a piss, you can sometimes come back to find your food wrapped up in a massive tin foil giraffe.

I used to love this place. Their cheesy, hot, spicy mac would draw me back again and again, especially after a long night of drinking. But I've gotten used to the place and now I can see its faults. The service isn't great, unless you get that one blond guy. The wait can be ridiculous, unless you go really early or really late. The drinks are way overpriced (except for the 1/2 off bottles of wine on Monday) and just not that great, and most of the clientele consist of obnoxious 16-20 year olds for whom overpriced alcohol is not yet an issue. But none of this matters- because the mac n'cheese is still good and cheap and available late, and I will continue to eat there, even if it pisses me off a little. Oh, and try the black eyed pea fritters. They're pretty good.

The Montage has been a staple in my restaurant experience for the past few years. Recently, I've been known to crave their fried pear salad with bleu cheese crumbles at odd times. I would stick to eating there at lunch, though, as the night time crowds of folks pouring in there are loud and full of douchebaggery. In general, the whole place gets super loud at night. Once you combine the douchebag guests, the blasting music, and the sound of the busy kitchen, you can't hear what anyone in your dinner party is saying.
