<![CDATA[The special board was the only thing special about this place. The service was great but unfortunately everything else was just mediocre. The atmosphere was rather plain, as well as the food.

<![CDATA[i don't get what the big fuss is about zells. there are plenty of other, better, options around the area with less of a wait. i guess i just have different taste but it seems to cater more to those that follow the hype than anything.

<![CDATA[It's the sort of restaurant that boasts heat lamps outside the entrance for the throngs who will invariably line up to dine here.

And for good reason.

I have eaten here more than any other restaurant in Portland. Amazing breakfast food. They have lunch too, but I've never bothered getting a sandwich here. Perhaps I should, but I am so enamored with their german pancakes and omelettes and fritattas and soups... You will swoon. Go stand in line! It's worth it.

<![CDATA[I've frequented Zells many times in the last 3 years since it's so freaking close to my house. And who wants to travel far for breakfast? The menu is a great mix of delectable sweet and savory items. Any type of pancake special they have, you should seriously think about ordering.

Food aside, the service is very spotty and entirely depends on your server. My biggest complaint about this place is that on slammed weekends where there's an hour wait, the staff does not hustle. Tables remain unbussed for close to 10 minutes. Staff stands around talking to each other right in front of you while you're waiting for 15 minutes for a menu. I've had to wait up to a half hour for a check to come even though we were very obviously ready for the bill.Although, other times (about half the time) the service is perfect.

The food is awesome, but the service may leave you completely unsatisfied.

<![CDATA[My favorite thing about this place is the constantly rotating specials board- they have a HUGE array of daily specials, and sometimes even their weirdest sounding choices are delicious. Also, they give you free mini scones. Yum. Good coffee, too. Be prepared to wait if you go on a weekend. (If you don't want to wait, check out the Utopia Cafe up the street...)
