My absolute favorite sushi joint in Portland. When friends and family come to visit and want a slice of Portland, this is where I take them. The music inside can range from funk to punk to soul to 80's synth pop, and the train is a classic touch.

The chefs and staff are always nice and helpful (although it helps that I'm friends with most of them LOL).

The ex-Takahashi may not quite be Ichiban (best) in Portland but it's up there with places more expensive and has a great family n' friends atmosphere. (Hint:s They have baby seats for the sushi counter! And show up right at 11:30 or after 1:30 to ensure booth seating during weekdays.)

Great fish, decent service and the best sushi value in Portland.

My favorite restaurant in town! For those thinking the selection is lacking, keep in mind there are over a dozen items not even on the menu, and not everything on the menu is automatically on the train. So next time ask a regular or request the list of special rolls and you'll be surprised how great those are. Half the things I usually order are never on the train...

Love this place. Great for those weeks when cash is running low and you're craving sushi something fierce. Nothing fancy here, service can be a little slow for custom orders and the selection is best during the dinner rush but definitely check it out, and leave your pretentious friends at home.

I love Sushi Takahashi, a.k.a. "The Sushi Train." I went there constantly for years, then unfortunately moved to a dumb city that only has ritzy-ass sushi for Los Angeles douchebags.

The Sushi Train is awesome. It's cheap and divey, you can get a giant beer, AND they have the best selection of weird vegetarian items I have ever seen at a sushi restaurant. The cool punk-rock waitresses are amazing at recommending weird stuff that's not on the menu (avocado/agadashi tofu rolls, MY GOD, I miss you every day...).

I have always heard that for actual fish they are not that great, but I don't eat fish, so all I know is that I go here, drop a small amount of money, and leave stuffed with a huge variety of quality sushi. Plus, vegan miso!!

I would say this is on my top 2 list of things I miss about Portland, #1 being Stumptown coffee.

This place has very decent sushi for very decent prices. The train is fun, the servers are cute and friendly, and there are some interesting/good things on the menu. Definitely try the salmon skin and the other roll- can't remember what it's called- but it's cooked fish with a spicy sauce on top. Those are my absolute favorites.

Last nights outing to this spot was hands down the worst experience eating out that I have had in a while. I have been to Takahashi a few times over the last 4 years and sometimes its a hit. Sometimes. And others, its not. Last night was a fuckin' air ball.
There was too much that went on to tell you all but let me say this..when I finally got some food, Hamachi roll, I bit into it and i may have well been biting into your [Achilles] Tendon. Don't even get me started. Thank god for the server who seemed just as irritated and frustrated as us...she took some things off the bill, thank you.
