Worst. Indian. Food. Ever. It was many months when I went there, so maybe they have figured out how to cook by now... but I have had saltines with more flavor. I emptied every condiment dish onto my plate so my food had flavor, which is not exactly what you look for in Indian food. To be fair, my friends' two plates were each edible, although nothing very good. I had a worse pizza once, but this place's meal has gone on my short list of the worst restaurant food I've ever had. I didn't think food could have negative flavor.

I live right next door to this place and I love Indian, so I really, really want to like it. Unfortunately, it's the most mediocre Indian food you can get and the service is awful. It makes me so sad. I love Indian food so much.

there sure are a lot of pretentious snob reviewers on this site. this is the best indian around. it's cheap. the waitress we seem to always have is sweet and funny. the chai is free refills.

the bathrooms are dingy, but that's cause they share it with the bar in the building. and yes, the cook lady can give you the stink eye at times but i think there's some cultural misunderstanding going on or something cause she always seems to be scowling and we can't figure out why. sometimes you just need to laugh it off, enjoy the food, and quit complaining.

Wow, I love Indian food & this place is not what the two bad reviews I read depict. The food is above average in the North India/Punjabi style. The owners are a Sikh couple who are quite sweet & friendly. The place used to have worn linoleum but that has been removed to reveal a neat, old hardwood floor that they put a clear finish on to maintain its old charm. The restaurant is part of the historic, old Hawthorne Theater building. Addressing the issues raised by another commenter: I concede the bathrooms are a bit dirty but I have NEVER seen a cockroach there. I'm a frequent customer, they are attentive & bring me chai after my 2nd plate without my ever asking. The greatness of the food (the best Indian food in town for the price besides the cart on 12th downtown I don't go to because it wastes paper to get food that way) far outweighs the little bit of dryness the naan has now & then. Go to Indian Oven, see for yourself, excellent food & company (meaning the staff, not me).

I have had terrible experiences not once but twice (yeah, shame on me for going there the second time). I took my family for a lunch buffet and the whole experience was horrible:
1. The food is below average. There're other Indian restaurants in town that have much better food and great dining experience
2. The cook comes out every now and then (the owner lady apparently) and yells at customers, who ask for the buffet to be restocked (since it's never stocked fully)
3. Very poor service
4. The restrooms are unhygienic and extremely dirty. Not sure how these guys are still in business. Serious health and food safety concerns
5. Poor value and not worth the money you pay for.
Avoid this dump.

Great Indian food. The chai is delicious also. The service was awful, but the food made the trip well worth it. Bring a sweater- we went last winter and were nearly frozen out. Again, the fantastic food was well worth it, though.

I have spent a lot of time in India and I love Indian food. I have eaten at many of the Indian Rest in p-town and I think this place has the best food hands down. Their kofta is to die for, the tandori clay oven is great. Now they have a out door patio which is really great.
