Definitely the worst breakfast joint I've been to in PDX, after hearing how great and delicious it is. The biscuit is the only positive here--the gravy looks unappetizing and doesn't taste much better (the veggie gravy is even worse). Everything is ridiculously oversized and expensive, so you end up spending way too much money for tons of food you can't eat. Worst service--bordering on full-on contempt by the waitress--I've possibly ever had. Mimosas are too expensive, food takes forever to come to the table and when we ordered, much of it was burnt (the bacon and potatoes, for example) and the gravy wasn't hot. How you gonna call yourself "Gravy" with a dish so mediocre?

      Ugh.
The service at Gravy is abysmal. I grew up in Portland, and I remember when the snotty service thing was a trend/epidemic here, but I thought we were moving in a different direction these days. Gravy, however, upholds the outdated and gauche tradition of treating customers like they have intruded on the staff's social hour. This would be almost acceptable if Gravy was a) something special food-wise and/or b) in a neighborhood with an established reputation for snark. However, the food is only a few meager clicks above so-so, and there are plenty of places in the neighborhood to get friendly, competent service.
I recently discovered that Gravy has a sort of lounge at the back of the restaurant...the waaay back. My friend and I found ourselves there for happy hour and were, oddly, the only people in the joint. The veggie burger was delicious (not to mention cheap) and probably the best I've had in Portland thus far (after having lived here for 1 year, that is.) The space has a basement/rec room sort of vibe, replete with funky old sofas & chairs, hanging lamps, & I think a pinball machine & some board games. Good music but no jukebox. I hope the place catches on; it's a nice alternative to Crow Bar & Moloko Plus.
