<![CDATA[One of the worst meals I have ever eaten. To call it mexican cuisine is like saying the olive garden is fine italian. The green mayo they call guacamole was the worst trick ever played on me in a restaurant. If you are looking for a break up spot however I give it five stars!

<![CDATA[Great place, it's "Americanized" TEX-MEX and a Portland tradition just turning 50. If you like all kinds of Mexican food - "Fresh" style, street style and even the American version then you will enjoy this place. The menu is a value, portions nice, I love the salsa - maybe not the best but certainly the most consistent I've ever had - year to year the same flavors explode in your mouth! The place hasn't changed it's decor and that's part of the charm. If your really into "fresh" styles, their are a number of things on the menu that should help - Fajitas a good choice, etc. Just don't expect a "Baja Fresh" or a trendy joint that offers up a different fair.

<![CDATA[Contrary to two of the previous reviews, The Taco House continues to serve up some of the best food in Portland. I have been going to both the Powell and NE 82nd locations on a fairly regular basis for nearly 40 years and have NEVER been disappointed and certainly have NEVER been made sick by the food.

My wife and I normally get the Deluxe El Picador to share and alternate between chicken and beef but we also order entrees from their menu,

<![CDATA[I've moved away from Portland but, when I lived there, I went to The Original Taco House about once a week for lunch or dinner (since about 1970). When I've been back to Portland The Taco House has been one of the places I've always tried to re-visit. I was in the city in August 2007 with a friend who'd never been there before and I suggested going to The Taco House for dinner.

IT WAS HORRIBLE! I was embarrassed to have suggested it. The worst were the refried beans. They had a very strange taste and were inedible. We both had some digestive problems the next day too.

I'd also recommended the restaurant to friends who were in Portland earlier in the month. They'd had the same negative experience with their food (and mentioned the strange taste of the beans).

It's a shame that such a previously popular long-time restaurant seems to be chasing away it's fans.

[I do like the remodeling job at the Powell Blvd site though.]

<![CDATA[It's a nasty trick that they pull there.

What they do is, see: they first make the names of everything sound as though they'll be good (those cunning bastards!). Then, after an extended wait for your food to arrive, which I can only assume is to remove their twisted smiles off of their faces before they serve you, you are delivered the most scattered pile of sick that you've ever seen in your life.

If you like crippling diarrhea, man, you're in for a treat!
