How is $6.50 expensive for a sandwich? And who goes to a bar to complain that soda is pricey?!? WTF?

If you want a significantly better alternative to McMenamin's than The Leisure Public House is the place to come. Rather than soggy French fries they have cracked pepper kettle chips. Rather than a $10 Sysco-inspired cheese steak from McMenamin's, the Leisure has a $6 pressed panini sandwich made with fresh basil from the owner's garden and local tomatoes. Comparing this place to McMenamin's is a joke. This place isn't pretending to be the Portland City Grill, but it is definitely one-of-a-kind, locally owned, has bocce ball, an old-school 2 player Ms. Pac Man machine and an owner who will shoot the shit with you while he makes drinks, wipes down tables and occasionally tosses you a $5 dollar bill for the jukebox.

This place is an updated alternative to McMenamin's. There isn't much not to like about it, but it is a little more than you want to pay for what you will get. That is, the portions are on the smaller side, which is fine, but the prices are a little more than other places. If I go back it will be at happy hour.

The service friendly and drinks tasty but in order for Leisure to be a regular spot for this north portlander, it would have to start serving blended drinks (what a disappointment on a particularily hot day.) While the patio is nice and spacious, it is unfortunate that they are not willing to rent it out for short periods of a time for community/personal events.

I am a hard core semi-regular, and I don't agree that the food is particularly overpriced, but there could probably be some adjustments to make it more consistently reasonable. I also think we need to see more variety on the menu, but maybe that's because I got there too much....

Travis and Nicole and great. Sometimes when it's busy the service can be slow, but it is always friendly.

leisure is a nice place to hang out with friends and it will probably get bustling with the summer heat as the patio outside is roomy. the beer on tap offers a few nice micros, but the food is overpriced. seems to be a common opinion, but you should try it out for yourself. also, expect to pay $$$ for a small glass of soda (no refills, either). all in all a friendly place to hang with friends but it isn't my first choice based on the serving-to-price factor.
