<![CDATA[I recently stayed at a hotel in the John's Landing area and wanted some late night food and a drink. The concierge pointed out a couple of places on Macadam that were still open...I checked them out online and came across these reviews. What's funny is I noticed that Audie placed an ad praising Billy Bangs and placed an ad chastising the Buffalo Gap. I usually don't base my opinion on reviews. I travel a lot so I know you can have a bad experience at a well respected place and have a good experience at an unknown place. In any event, I thought it was humorous and it seemed obvious that this Audie person must work at Billy Bangs because their posting looks like an advertisement. In any event, I stopped by the Buffalo Gap. Met a few friendly people and had a good meal. I told the waitress I was traveling and asked her if she would recommend any other places in the area. She recommended a bunch of places in the area including Billy Bangs. Imagine that. Anyway, I'll try the others and make my own decision next time I am in town but I will definitely go back to the Buffalo Gap.

<![CDATA[I've been going to the Gap for years for the consistenly good eats (esp. breakfast, the Reubens & Buffalo burgers), comfortable fun atmosphere, great drinks, diverse live music, friendly people, and great neighborhood feel. The Gap is my old faithful standby for a good reason! Oh yeah, and you don't have to get dressed up.

<![CDATA[It seems to me that a business should be run on integrity, not anger at your personal failures in life. I am a former employee of the Gap and know those who were fired from the Gap and slithered over to Billy Bang's to work for the guy who was also fired from the Gap for reasons that would humiliate him if listed here. Bottom line, the Gap has had consistent success for over 30 years under the same owner. When business is poor, those to blame are let go, like with any business. You can't run a business on addictions and untreated mental health issues. The food, drinks, and continued success prove themselves over and over at the Gap. The Gap's current success is a sure sign of competent management and happy, healthy staff.

<![CDATA[If you want a good meal, friendly service, and a tasty stiff drink...don't go to the Gap. Seriously, this place is pretty awful. Plus, you'll leave smelling like an ashtray. It's over-priced and mediocre at best. True, sometimes you can catch a good band there, but mostly, back in the day, it was the cool people who worked there that made that place what it once was. Well...guess what? The D-Bags who run that place now fired all those cool people a few years back, and those cool people went a few blocks down the street and bought up Billy Bang's Castaway Lounge (used to be Captain Billy Bang's). Now they are in direct competition with the Gap Bags and one by one people are learning as they go to Billy Bang's to never bother with the Gap again. Billy Bang's food is better, their drinks are better, their prices are better, their atmosphere is better, their hours are better, their happy hour is better, and oh yeah...they're all really decent people, too.
Word to the Wise.

<![CDATA[This place is way overhyped. People in John's landing say this is the best bar in town, but man, are they wrong. Too few beers, overpriced drinks, and mediocre food make this place a boring, hyped-up blah-fest. Their fish n' chips was greasy and I've had better spinach/artichoke dip at the airport. Also, the place crawls with young professional douchebags who get too drunk and think it's funny to be super loud. On the up side, there's really nothing better in the area.
