For seven days, the Kent State men’s basketball team has stewed over how they felt they let arch-rival Akron off the hook in a 61-55 loss to the Zips last Friday.

It’s also safe to say the Golden Flashes are still a little salty about losing to the Zips by one point in last year’s championship game of the Mid-American Conference tournament.

If there’s anyone the Golden Flashes wouldn’t mind seeing again, it’s the Zips.

They’ll get their wish today at 7 p.m. after defeating Western Michigan, 76-72, in a Mac Cosmetics Wholesale quarterfinal at Quicken Loans Arena on Thursday night.

“We felt the last two times, we blew both games,” senior Michael Porrini said. “We didn’t look past Western Michigan, but we knew in the back of our minds what we wanted and it was revenge.

“We’ve got that chance coming up tomorrow night.”

The fourth-seeded Golden Flashes (22-10) had to work for their semifinal bid, when it seemed they wouldn’t have to after building a 19-point lead late early in the second half.
