Sadly, this happens to males too. It happened to a coworker, he was 18 and she was 16 and Dad didn't like the relationship and filed charges. They were both in high school.

10yrs. later while being promoted to insurance management, a new background check found the conviction and he was fired.

He still has to report as a sex offender too. Lame.

I try to avoid spoilers for the most part, but it's not really that big of a deal if they do happen. I found out the twist to The Crying Game before seeing it, and it didn't diminish my enjoyment of the story. If anything, it gave me something to anticipate, which might have actually heightened my enjoyment. Plus, I'll bet some people saw the twist as soon as they saw the character, so there's that, too - the aspect of figuring out the twist ahead of time. Maybe that's what people don't want spoiled - they want to be able to say they saw it coming all on their own (a bit of media hubris).

      A+, good read, Bobby.

I basically feel the same as you but I'm far less articulate.

The only "spoiler" I can't deal with is when a movie is made out of a book I love (say, The Golden Compass) and I have to go out of my way to avoid everything associated with the film version. I don't want those images to replace the wonderful ones I have in my head, that I experienced reading the book. Because they really do seem to take over in your brain -- Frodo will always be Elijah Woods now.

I feel that if your enjoyment of a movie or film or any other piece of media is predicated mostly on whether or not its plot details are spoiled, then that's indicative of much bigger problems in the first place. If a story doesn't resonate unless it has to surprise me, then I can't imagine it was well-told in the first place. Personally I don't think spoilers really matter. I don't actively seek out spoilers, but I don't try to claw my own eyes out if I run into them. I can respect peoples' wishes to not have things spoiled for them though.

Denis-Still haven't seen any attempt to evaluate contrasting studies on the effectiveness of fluoridation worldwide and argue for them based on that, or to discuss the pharmacological issues around fluoridation. The argument, boiled down, is still: People's teeth are bad; we believe the people who say fluoridation of the water supply is the best way to fix it and that there are no significant negatives; anyone who doesn't agree with us is an asshole.

It's not local unless you're reading this in San Francisco, but I've been enjoying the Boars, Gore, and Swords podcast, in which two comedian-nerds (Red Scott and Ivan Hernandez) and guests riff on episodes of Game of Thrones. Of all the GoT podcasts I've tried, this one stands out because they're actually funny and because they're not just repeating variations on "I'm confused and angry because the tee-vee show isn't an exact match of the book." They're also good about avoiding spoilers since they've only read as far in the books as the tee-vee show has gone (give or take a few long-winded descriptions of medievalesque meals).

Maybe you should return home; then you can return to your values.

So even though Oregon's dental health numbers have all improved over the last five years as demonstrated in the draft version of the new Oregon Smile Survey, the one that the OHA delayed for political purposes, and despite the fact that Portland's dental health numbers are far better than the national average, Denis is right. The woeful lack of access to dental health care is the reason for poor dental health, especially in low-income families, not fluoridation.

Hey chicostix, you realize Portland citizens have voted down fluoride four times now since the 1950's, right? I have lived in Portland my entire life. It seems to me that rejecting the risks and corporate interest's involved in water fluoridation is a unequally Portland quality, so who's really the tourist here? How long have you lived in Portland?
