A Chinaman Killed by His Herder
Yesterday, a furious assault was made on the white foreman of a gang of Celestials who were on the big fill east of Albina. It seems that for some reason, he was very unpopular with the Chines and giving some order not to their liking. They, with uplifted shovels, made for the herder. He was in imminent danger of his life, and gathering a stone, hurled it at the nearest heathen, fracturing his skull. When our informant left the scene, the Chinaman was reported dying. Immediately after the fray, the foreman, whose name we failed to learn, made tracks for the woods, just in time to save himself from the now furious laborers. Without doubt, his action was justifiable, and will be so declared by the courts.
