When one speaks to Marion J. Hyde, they might have trouble understanding him, due to the disappearance of his hearing and eyesight. Nevertheless, Marion sits outside a clinic in Northwest Portland six days a week, protesting abortion. "576,000 babies were killed last year," Marion argues. "576,000 times, human life has been taken."

"What do you think of abortion?" he will ask you within seconds of meeting you. If you attempt to give a vague, diplomatic answer, he will say, "So you think it's okay to take human life? You think killing babies is okay?"

Marion knows what's going to happen in the future. "Fire is going to rain down upon us from the sky," he promises. "If men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity," reads the flier he hands out. "It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never have seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity." As you can see, Marion is oppressed. Oppressed by abortion, oppressed by his holy duty, oppressed by the fire in the sky.--KATIA DUNN
