Housed in a huge multi-purpose complex on N. Vancouver and Williams. Don't let it's simple interior fool you, this is absolutely the best Ethiopian you can get for the price (or maybe just the best). As far as the price goes, 2 people can stuff themselves for under $10 total, no problem. What are you waiting for?

I love me some Dalo's! Seriously It's the best Ethopian I've had in town and I've tried them all except Jarra's (that place skeezes me out). The food is top notch, the people are super-nice, they don't fuss about bringing you extra enjera and it's sooo cheap. I could eat there every day but I'd have to start buying bigger pants.
Two months ago my friends and I went there. The restaurant was half-full. After my friends and I got menus, we waited for what seemed an eternity to even place a beverage order. The wait staff, who we looked at with puppy dog eyes for attention, were busy attending to other diners or wandering around. After 20 minutes of waiting, we were too hungry to hang around much more - and left.
I learned about this place on Portland foodie web sites and forums. All those people who are used to paying $100 for dinner for two, were freaking out about this place and how good it is. They were right, this place is so good, and yet it's so amazingly inexpensive. The service is slow but friendly, and it's not so much a date place due to the fluorescent lighting, but the portions are enormous and two people can eat for $10, easily. Don't forget to wash it down with some Harar or Hakim beer -- it turns out that Ethiopian beer is very, very good. Harar in particular has a wonderful honey-like flavor, and the most beautiful bottle label I've seen. If you like this place you might want to try the Blue Nile on Broadway as well, which is also very good.
Well, I may not move to Ethiopia soon but this restaurant throws down with some killer grub. Good for vegans and food snobs alike, Dalo's will satisfy. I used to go there before I moved to Hawaii (try finding ANYTHING good there except India Cafe on Kapahulu in Honolulu, the BEST Indian food in the world!) and when I came back, they had totally redecorated. The food was still awesome and it's nice to see the same people behind the counter. Go to Dalo's or you will regret it for the rest of your life.
But fucking delicious and cheap, so that's the way it goes.
