Winter Prozac Film Festival

To hell with all those other film fests; the Mercury's Winter Prozac Film Festival at the Clinton Street Theater is the only collection of Friday night films designed to turn your February frown upside-down! Unlike those other boring film festivals, we raise the fun quotient by scientifically combining the following ingredients: campy films, heckling, weird pre-show entertainment, and most of all, A LOT OF ALCOHOL. And this year's Prozac fest is shaping up to be the best yet! Check it out!

THIS FRIDAY, JANUARY 28! It's the most hilariously cheesy dance flick ever, Footloose. Get ready to heckle when Kevin Bacon tries to convince a stuck-up Christian town to shake their moneymakers. Plus a special pre-show performance by the Mercury Puppetry Guild!

And the following Fridays are just as fun, featuring such terrific campy fare as Smokey & the Bandit, Valley Girl, Evil Dead II, The Smurfs, and one of the great classics of the modern cinema, Top Gun. Plus there will be plenty of pizza, cheap beer, and Medoyeff Vodka on hand to lubricate your heckling muscles. So say "goodbye" to those winter blues and "hello" to fun every Friday night with the Prozac Film Fest! WM. STEVEN HUMPHREY

Dodge Bowl!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: DODGEBALL IS THE GREATEST SPORT EVER CREATED. Nothing--not baseball, not basketball, and for damn sure not soccer--beats seeing the red blur of a ball flashing through the air, or hearing athletes' terrified yelps as they're pelted with relentless volleys of rubbery pain.

If you appreciate dodgeball as the truly enlightened do, then you're in for a treat--because at the Oak Grove Center in Milwaukie, Oregon Alternative Sports, Inc. is getting a giant dodgeball tournament rolling, and it's stacked to the brim with mini-tournaments and novelty nights--like tonight's, which is open only to high school students (on Valentine's Day, check the "Sweetheart Co-Ed Tournament"). All of it leads up to February's "Dodge Bowl"--which'll pit the best of the best against each other in an adrenaline-fueled, rubber ball-armed fracas of epic proportions. ERIK HENRIKSEN
