One of the higher-profile designers to show their work at Portland Fashion Week, Leanne Marshall has given Portland Project Runway fever as a contestant on the fifth and current season of the popular design reality show. As a finalist, she was able to show her spring collection in Bryant Park during last month's New York Fashion Week to widespread acclaim. Be sure to catch the final episode of Project Runway on Wednesday, October 15, on the Bravo channel. Here, Marshall's Gezanne dress as worn by "Joy (Pioneer Woman)," bronze, by Frederick Littman, 1956, at Council Crest Park, City of Portland Public Art Collection, gift of Mrs. Florence Laberee.

Typically, given the independent streak that characterizes the Portland personality, some of the most exciting Fashion Week events are happening off the official calendar, not the least of which is RunAway. A group show of apparel and accessories by six local designers, plus music and film, the don't-miss event promises to be a night to celebrate the spirit of inclusiveness across the local arts. Here, a collar created collaboratively by the RunAway designers: Reif (Lindsey Reif), Emily Katz, Dust (Julia Blackburn), Paradox Jewelry (Page Finlay), Sword + Fern (Emily Baker), and MOTHLOVE (Gretchen Jones), as worn by "The Dream," bronze, by Michael Florin Dente, 1990, at the Convention Center MAX station. See pg. 18 for complete event information.

The rebellious genius of Adam Arnold seems to consistently lead him to the top of the design heap, with a loyal cadre of devoted fans and clients. Eschewing the fashion show format altogether, Arnold is hosting a dress-up party at his studio during this week's melee. See pg. 18 for complete information.
