Fire on the Mountain is the cream of the crop when it comes to chicken wing cuisine. This little fry house has the freshest wings around, and over ten different homemade sauces to slather them in. Don't fear bringing your veggie friends here: "Portland Wings," AKA vegetarian "chicken" wings, or the "Vegeterranean" sandwich will fill them up. And if you happen to have a hankering for some old-fashioned sweet tea or state-fair-inspired deep-fried pickles or Twinkies, this would be your place.

The "vegetarian chicken wings" probably are not what you'r thinking. I was expecting something that really had a chicken texture, not unlike some of the fake chicken drumsticks I have found at smaller Asian food restaurants. Sadly, the one's they serve here are about on par with the kind you get at the grocery store. Save your money, make them at home.
Visiting Portland a friend to me to this place and OMG!!!! I has no idea wings could be this good, seriously I wish there was a place like this good in L.A. (hello sweet potato fries!!!) I dream about the sauses everyday! Please come to L.A.
I liked this little hippie chicken-wing place. You order at the counter and are greeted with a tray of tasty sauces to choose from peanut to chipotle. It's a different concept than any other restaurant in Portland with a fun atmosphere. Order a side of tater tots and a pitcher of beer to wash it down. And if your heart can take it..a fried Twinkie for dessert.
fire on the mountain is under rated. but thats ok because its small and since its not to popular i alwyas get a place to sit. im not into spicy foods so i love that they have options for someone like me. the bbq sauce is really good. ive eaten there with people that like the hot stuff and ive never heard a complaint. there "tots" are the shit too. they have bannana ketchup, which i need to buy for my home, its way better than that other red stuff. they have choices for people not wanting chicken like pastas and salads so you cant complain if you dont think the veggie wings. if youve got balls order a deep freid twinkie. its better than it sounds. it tastes like an elahent ear with filling so its delicious, only you have to eat it when its warm. also try the eggplant sandwich it great. and last but not least they have local brews and the occasional live show!
I have been to FOTM probably a dozen times or more and now, thanks to them, I am a wing addict. The only complaint that i have about this place is that, well nothing. I can deal with the lack of seating, besides i eat them mostly in the dark nooks and alcoves of Portland where i remain unseen, sweatty, and gluttonous. Under bridges mostly. This place has the best wings in Portland that i can find so far.
