Texas Chainsaw Chili Cook-off, Sabala's, 4811 SE Hawthorne, 238-1646, Sunday, June 26th, 6:30 pm

Think your chili is God's gift to mouths? Well, prove it! Sabala's is hosting a chili cook-off of massive proportions this Sunday. It's $10 per entry, and the cook with the best tasting chili gets all money collected. Show up at 6 pm with your pre-prepared grub, pay your fee, and you'll be designated a number. Bring your own crock-pot, or Sabala's has a stove you can warm your chili up on (but you want it to stay warm). Once someone has been crowned chili master, it's movie time. Sabala's is then showing Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, a fitting choice because as Jason Sabala said, "We'll eat chili, then watch people be turned into chili."KS

No Fish! Go Fish! Strip Jeopardy for NARAL, 3962 SE Hawthorne, 235-5378, Saturday, June 25, 10:30 pm, $5

For those of us who are fans of reproductive rights, it's time to head out in support of the cause. No Fish's naughty weekly game show goes political by giving proceeds from the door to the lovable reproductive rights group, NARAL. Plus, the Mercury's own Marjorie Skinner will be flinging her drawers all over the restaurant as a contestant, which is always a sight to behold. KS

Carafe's Prix Fixe Three Course Meal, 200 SW Market, 248-0004

I've managed to be out of the loop on this, but apparently Portland's own Carafe Caf was not only voted best French restaurant by Portland Monthly, but they were voted one of America's best restaurants in Gourmet magazine. Their prix fixe menu, which continues throughout the summer, gives you a starter, soup, or salad, and an entree for $20. Their debut menu offers salmon rillettes tartine with arugula, a spinach salad with almonds and goat cheese, and a choice of seared hanger steak or Carlton Farms pork tenderloin as your entree. Plus, the caf offers plenty of Parisian style outdoor seating for the summer weather ahead. KS
