Coffee gets the Film School treatment: The new art collective teams up with Stumptown Coffee to present an evening of coffee-themed works, including an animated short from Too Much Coffee Man creator Shannon Wheeler, lectures from local baristas, and a peek at former Mercury staffer Phil Busse's new documentary about last year's regional barista championships. It's a bit of a drive to the Cascade Geographic Society's 15th Annual Salmon and Mushroom Festival, but from the sound of it, this fall fest will be worth the trek. Highlights of the weekend-long event include a salmon bake, live music, and a scarecrow-building contest. AH

Abernathy Elementary was the pilot kitchen in the Portland Public Schools' plan to shift the focus in school cafeterias toward seasonal, local options. At the A+ lunch/lecture, attendees will be treated to a typical Abernathy cafeteria meal, while listening to panelists discuss the state of school cafeteria reform. AH
