Restaurant Details

Mid-century-modern sophistication and Portland cool all come together at the Gold Dust Meridian, the latest bar on the Hawthorne strip. Swank and suave, with a naughty side almost like it was conceived by Ian Fleming himself, the moodily-lit interior is a perfect pace to unwind with one of their signature cocktails like the Hawthorne Wallbanger or the Casino Royale. The menu consists of stylish appetizers, salads, and sandwiches, with a few entrées as well. Your secret-agent mission: Slip on your sport coat and Romeos, then drive your Austin Healy directly there.

The Meridian is a great new bar for a district sorely in need of non-hippy energy. It's got Nightlight pedigree, and it feels like it, with a lot of seating packed into a cozy little space. Wood is everywhere, and plenty of big booths to enjoy really affordable drinks and fairly high-end food. If you haven't been, you'll wind up there soon.

Great new bar, in a much needed neighborhood. Strong coctails, great food and some cool employees make for an evening, late night or even just afternoon destination. Great painting by the bar also.

Both retro and modern, kitschy and classy, this bar was such a pleasant surprise. It manages to be swanky yet not pretentious, with cocktails and food that are innovative yet inexpensive (well, relatively). Yay!

True to the old Head and Shoulders tagline -- you only got one chance to make a first impression -- a first visit to GDM proved flake free with reasonable prices on tasty (and thankfully non-pub grub) late-night food as well as drinks, friendly service, a good DJ spinning records that complimented the atmosphere without commandeering the airwaves, and, as previously mentioned, a swanky yet unpretentious vibe. Indeed a welcome option on Hawthorne.
