Halloween Roundup

Zombies & Pirates & Corn, OH MY!

Oh boy, oh boy! It's Halloween time... the best time of the year. The bad news: It's on a Tuesday, which is going to make the Wednesday hangover suck. The good news: Who gives an eff, it's Halloween, and there's a ton of stuff to do.

HAUNTED HOUSES

No one is too cool for a good haunted house. Get ready for a good scare, because Portland's got haunted coming out of every pore.

FrightTown—Fun and scary rolled up into one monster of a Halloween burrito. Check out the amazing Baron Von Goolo's Museum of Horrors and Food Court of the Damned—it's like a Geek Love/Tim Burton orgy of fright. There's also some thrills to be had at the Black Box and Elshoff Manor, but bring your kneepads for when you hit the deck screaming. Rose Garden, 1 Center Court, 7-10 pm (Fri-Sat 7-11 pm), through Oct 31, $20, frighttown.com

Haunted Corn Maize—Wander the extensive haunted maze as ghouls and goblins distract you with an earful of scare.Hwy 30 West to Sauvie Island Bridge, cross bridge, turn left and loop underneath, drive two miles to the Pumpkin Patch, Fri-Sat & Tues 6-11 pm, through Oct 31, $8, portlandmaze.com

Scream at the Beach—Start the night off with a self-pitying moan on the scary traffic-riddled drive to Jantzen Beach, but prepare to scream your face off once you get there. Make sure to hit up the Curse of the Voodoo Woman haunt, where eight cloaked voodoo practitioners in a tiny, tiny room surround you menacingly. (It scared the crap outta me.) There's also Pirates: Brethren of the Black Flag, Nightmares II, Hayden Institute for the Criminally Insane, and the carnie-operated Black Rose Pirate Ship. I-5 North to Exit 308, turn left under freeway to the mall, 7-10 pm (Fri-Sat 7-11 pm), through Oct 31, $8-33, screamatthebeach.com

Screamland at Oaks Park—Gather the Scooby Gang, 'cause it looks like the amusement park is haunted. The daring can check out three different haunts: Terror in the House of Wax, Alice's Twisted Fairytales, and Cage Match the Haunt(!). Oaks Parks, 1 SE Spokane, 7-10 pm (Fri-Sat 7 pm-midnight), through Oct 31, $8-30, screamland.com

13th Door—So scary it's being evicted from the Old Haunted Theater in Tigard—so check out this haunted house before it's gone for good. This legitimately haunted theater (according to the Encyclopedia of Haunted Places) is transformed into the Door Corporation, Facility #13, a covert government-funded research facility. 10125 Washington Square Mall Rd, Tigard, 7:30-10 pm (Fri-Sat 7:30 pm-midnight, Tues 7:30-11 pm), through Oct 31, $15-25, 13thdoor.com

With more acts then you can shake a voodoo stick at, City Repair Projects' fundraiser, Howl, should be amazing. There'll be three stages, inside and outside, with scary names like the Graveyard, Creepy Canopy Area, and Zombie Power Zone. Rotture, 315 SE 3rd, Sat Oct 28, 9 pm, $12-25

It's a dead man's party this Halloween at the Fez. Saturday check out the ever-popular DJ Anjali and The Incredible Kid for Bollywood Horror IV.
