My, What a Busy Week!

THURSDAY MARCH 15

MUSIC--Although it might appear as such on the advertising, Cave Rage will not be performing tonight. C-Average, however, our favorite non-ironic Dungeons and Dragons metal heshers, will be. Add five hit points for technicality, and another 10 for ROCK! JS w/C.O.C.O., the Parlor Maids

Meow Meow, 527 SE Pine, 230-2111, 9 pm, all ages, $6

FRIDAY MARCH 16

FILM AND STUFF--A house party about houses! Your invitation? Bring a photo, movie, or some other artistic depiction of houses! P.S. What?, an artistic collective, kicks off their "Bike-In Theatre" by screening a handful of new films on the side of, yes, you guessed it, their house! Including an intrepid slide show about George Washington's boyhood home! PB

P.S. What?, 1968 SW 5th Ave, sundown, free

ICE CREAM--Did you know that Chubby Hubby, that infernal salty-and-sweet flavor of Ben & Jerry's, was invented as a joke?! Now is your chance to conjure up the oddest ice cream treat: Salsa Dip Peppermint Stick? Nacho Caramel Cheesy Swirl? Dreyer's Ice Cream is sending a rep to take suggestions. PB

Fred Meyer, 3030 NE Weidler St, 601-4211, 10-11 am, free

SATURDAY MARCH 17

QUEER SHORTS--Tired of watching movies in which glossy, vanilla straights have perfect relationships without depth or adversity? Then check out Love and Loathing in Vancouver, B.C., in which eight videomakers offer visual interpretations of homoeroticism, first love, fetishism, generation gaps, and pride, all from a queer perspective. JS

NW Film Center at the Guild Theatre, 829 SW 9th Ave, 221-1156, 7:30 pm, $7.50

MUSIC--Seattle's newest trio of whiz kids make their way down. Like Athena springing fully formed from the head of Zeus, Aveo has emerged as a smart, cool, and confident new band. None of the stage antics, just well crafted music. (see review page 13). With 31 Knots, Carissa's Wierd. PB

Medicine Hat, 1834 NE Alberta, 778-7700, 9:30, $6

SUNDAY MARCH 18

PUNK--I lost interest in punk about 10 years ago when I thought that the genre had degenerated into a mish-mosh of anger, over-reverberating ugly chords and spitting vocals. At first, I reckoned, maybe I'm just growing up. P-shaw! Hostile Omish rekindles my lust. Sardonic and superior, the way punk is meant to be. PB

Amish Punk Night, Satyricon, 125 NW 6th Ave, 9 pm, $6

MONDAY MARCH 19

PERSONALITY TEST--In Spain people take two hour naps every afternoon. Here in the U.S. we'd rather spend our free time learning about ourselves with thespark.com's ultra-intuitive personality tests. So much fun, you'll forget you're a corporate slave. AB

TUESDAY MARCH 20

MUSIC--Kathleen Hanna once sang, "We are turning cursive letters into knives." And she'd be right if she was talking about Cursive, the band. With vocals like pinking shears and tense, stabbing guitars, a rumble with this group is one you absolutely wanna get into. JS

Meow Meow, 527 SE Pine, 230-2111, 9:00, all ages, $6

MUSIC--Pansonic is only two guys, and they play hour-long sets of ear-crushing, complex white noise complete with a hypnotist's film that actually fluctuates according to the music.High-tech, and you always wonder if their frequencies will make you lose bowel control (which, in this case, is a good thing). JS

Pine Street Theater, 215 SE 9th, 224-TIXX, 9 pm, $8

WEDNESDAY MARCH 21

ART--Like a Spirograph designed by Escher, Reed College professor Michael Knutson patches together zillion-layered paintings: Red, black and white spirals, funnels, and other whirling, dizzying geometric shapes. PB

Blackfish Gallery, 420 NW Ninth Avenue, 224-2634, Tues-Sat, 12-5, free

FILM--Duping, Cary Grant, double-crossing, Eva Marie-Saint, gorgeous filmography, tons of suspense--there's a reason Hitchcock's classic film, North by Northwest, is still playing in theaters 42 years after its release. Don't miss it. JS

Cinema 21, 616 NW 21st Ave, 223-4515, 7 and 9:30, $6
