THUMP--If you or your honey ain't got no money, show you love them with a glue stick! Get Your Heart On is a chance to check out "love-art" and construct your own crafts and cards. There'll be a kissing booth for stags and swingers, raffles, dancing... even a film! Because chocolates make you pudgy and flowers attract bugs. MS

Disjecta, 116 NE Russell, 335-6979, 6 pm, Friday, 8 pm, free

FRIDAY, February 14

hiphop--Dope gets doper tonight at the release party for the new Zion I album, Deep Water Slang. Influenced by party-starters like Run DMC, but also by the mellow likes of Bob Marley, Zion I spit a kind of hiphop that is both energetic and smooth. His live show will make you want to grind vigorously. JWS

w/Siren's Echo, Madgesdiq, MyG & Kable Rock, Wicked, The Evil One, Sneakers, Spark; Fez Ballroom, 316 SW 11th, 221-7262, 9 pm, $14

MUSIC--You: Tim Kasher, singer with extraordinary range who manages to front two remarkable bands: Cursive and The Good Life. Me: Stunned Portland audience who watched Cursive rockthefuckoutta the Meow Meow less than two weeks ago. Can there be a better Valentine than to watch The Good Life, and the huggably-cute popsters of Rilo Kiley, perform together? The answer is no. CM

SECRET MOVIE SMASH-A-THON--The Mercury ends its funny-fun Winter Prozac Film Fest with a super-secret Portland premiere (which has something to do with kung-fu). Plus! If you bring in something belonging to an ex-lover, we'll destroy it for you onstage! Drown those Valentine sorrows with beer, chili, and an awesome movie. WSH

Clinton Street Theater, 2522 SE Clinton, 238-8899, 10 pm, $6

SATURDAY, February 15

LOUD MUSIC--Like a pounding enema of metal-minded free jazz, Flying Luttenbachers flush all that is time-changeable from shards of bass, and crush it into a bleeding yet curiously spare chunk of chaotic noise. For your well being, it is advisable to consume plenty of protein beforehand. JS
w/Intima, Chevron, Spooky Dance Band; Nocturnal, 1800 E Burnside, 239-5900, 9 pm, $6, all ages

MUSIC--You probably already know that Eric Bachmann was the leader of Archers of Loaf, and if you're a superfan, you've already swilled whiskey to Crooked Fingers, Bachmann's sad, drunk, and country-ish solo outfit. Expect plenty of finger-picked guitar, a heart-rending performance, and deep scratchy vocals that will dig a pit in your stomach.
w/Mary Lou Lord, The Decemberists, Modernstate; Blackbird, 3728 NE Sandy, 282-9949, 10 pm

SUNDAY, February 16

ROCK--Dude, this is the kind of music that spans generation gaps. Take just about every seminal element of rock and roll, ferment it in Brooklyn, add an extra dash of cock and flamboyance, then tie a rag on and get ready for Oneida. It'll be like going to an all-you-can-eat buffet of style--pack it in. MS
w/usaisamonster; Blackbird, 3728 NE Sandy, 282-9949, 10 pm, $8

MONDAY, February 17

READING--In his new book Smokescreen, Robert Sabbag turns his attention to Allen Long (also present), a pioneer of the South American marijuana trade. Using DC3 airplanes in the '70s, Long brought home mother lodes of Colombian Gold (crizzle izzle snizzle) and, in the process, re-invented the routes of the drug trade. Sure the book's a documentary, but why can't it also serve as a how-to? PB
Powell's on Hawthorne, 3723 SE Hawthorne, 238-1668, 7:30 pm, free

KICKASS MUSIC--A seasoned emcee battler, Sage Francis has stepped out from behind his Rhode Island-based nonprofits to be one of the most unapologetic dissenters against blind patriotism and compliance. Tinged with punk and unflinching cynicism, one riff from "Makeshift Patriot" could crush the entire post-9/11 catalogue from Bruce Springsteen. PB
w/Gruvis Malt; B-Complex, 320 SE 2nd Ave, 235-4424, 9 pm, $10

TUESDAY, February 18

THE HEAT--Yeah, he's been through hell and back, but the Reverend Horton Heat has used his time wisely, perfecting the art of entertaining his audience with born-again rock 'n' roll. Armed with a blistering gee-tar and his old-timey brand of foot-stomping, electrified hillbilly testifications, the Right Reverend Heat will make any unbeliever scream, "Hallelujah!" WSH
w/Unknown Hinson; Dante's, 1 SW 3rd Ave, 226-6630, 9 pm, $16.50

DJ--A lot of DJs feel like they have to jam as much beat over sample over scratch into their music as possible--creating a sort of Okay Cola with their turntabilism. Japan's DJ Krush, on the other hand, relaxes into beat centric, atmospheric splices that might be best described by the phrase cold-chillin'. KS
w/Supersoul, AMS, DJ Mug Frosty; B Complex, 320 SE Pine, 224-TIXX, 9 pm, $12

WEDNESDAY, February 19

UNCLE SAM IS THE PUSHER MAN--As vegan, militant revolutionary hiphop goes, Dead Prez are Malcolm X to The Coup's Martin Luther King, Jr. The FBI and COINTELPRO may have wiped out the Black Panthers, but "Dead Prez Means Dead the Fucking President," and the new way to reach the people is through the music. JS
