A long time Portland Farmer's Market favorite in its own storefront without the half-hour-long lines. The heart-attack-inducing Reggie Deluxe (fried chicken, gravy, cheese and bacon in a homemade biscuit) is selling like hotcakes. But don't worry: Their cream top biscuits are also available with fillings like homemade jam, roasted red pepper & goat cheese spread, and sausage or shittake mushroom gravy—along with eggs, bacon, sausage and cheese. Just remember to go jogging or something afterward.

It's not so easy to find good vegetarian biscuits & gravy but Pine State's version is pretty damn good. Be prepared for mostly starchiness here though. The sides are hash browns and grits. My gravy could have been a been a lot warmer on my last visit but it was still pretty tasty.
After seeing the positive reviews in the local press I gave this place a try. First thing I noticed is that the menu is very limited. It was around 1:00, and I wanted lunch, so I tried the fried chicken with pickles sandwich. It cost $6 for a small piece of chicken and came with NOTHING on the side! And it wasn't a great piece of fried chicken either. After eating here, I had to go somewhere else and get some lunch. I won't be going back.
I've only been once and the limited seating was slightly frustrating. However the prompt service, tasty biscuits and stumptown coffee make up for it all. You don't need anything else on the side.
What they make is really good, and they seem to be expanding the menu... but it needs a little bit more variety.
PSB is an over-hyped bad joke. One of us ordered a Moneyball (B&G topped with an egg), the other a biscuit with mushroom gravy, side of hash browns. When the food arrived, the hash browns were ice cold, the B&G lukewarm at best. The only thing hot was the egg on the Moneyball. Were the hash browns ready way ahead of everything else? No excuse for that, since everything is prepared to order: which means they are doing a bad job on getting your order ready. Or maybe the food got cold quickly because it was only about 55 degrees in the restaurant. Also, be aware that there are only 3 small tables and about 5 counter seats. A relaxed breakfast experience this is not. A sign on each table asks you to bus your own table and leave as soon as you are finished--which we would have done anyway. About the same time our food arrived, the place filled up. We "enjoyed" our breakfast with people crowded around us (one guy in particular kept hanging his butt right over my plate), many of whom were holding their plates and wanting to sit down and eat. We felt compelled to wolf it down--also to try to get the gravy in us while it was still lukewarm--and dash. Last, I don't see how one biscuit, with veggie gravy, from a self-serve counter for 5 bucks can be considered cheap. I think if their food were served hot it could be delicious, but until they expand into a larger space and get their act together, we will NEVER be back.
