What happens when you mix urban planning and one of Portland’s hottest experimental theater troupes? You get BUILT, a piece by Sojourn Theatre that takes place in South Waterfront, the setting of one of our city’s most controversial planned neighborhoods (read: condo towers). Billed as a “site-responsive participatory performance,” BUILT was commissioned by the neighborhood’s Artist in Residence Program, which adds an interesting twist: In a neighborhood that’s ripe for an artistic response to development, what will a performance funded by developers look like?
