Opening This Week

Vamp
Stark Raving Theatre presents this "sizzling and sexy summer comedy" about a script reader whose apartment is taken over by characters from the clichéd scripts she reads all day. Coho Theatre, 2257 NW Raleigh, 220-COHO, Opens Fri, runs Thurs-Sat 8 pm, Sun 7 pm, $10-20

Closing This Week

The Trial
From La Bodega Productions, an adaptation of Kafka's chilling story which finds parallels to our current judicial system. Theater! Theatre!, 3430 SE Belmont, 998-0034, Thurs-Sun, 8 pm, $12-15

Theater District
ART's new show has a compelling claim to fame, at least to anyone who was ever a teenager: it was penned by Richard Kramer, a television writer best known as the creator of My So-Called Life. It's unsurprising, then, that Theater District offers a worldview that has more in common with TV than with most of the contemporary theater to grace Portland stages. The difference is that underneath Theater District's glossy veneer of clichés and glib one-liners is an undeniable warmth that makes up for the shortcoming of conventionality. Artists Repertory Theatre, 1516 SW Alder, 241-1278, Thurs 7 pm, Fri-Sat 8 pm, Sun 2 pm, 7 pm, $15-40

Current Runs

The Odd Couple (Female Version)
The Odd Couple (Female Version) is just what it says it is: Felix and Oscar become Florence and Olive, mismatched roommates in Neil Simon's adaptation of his own play. As with any Simon play, there's smart, audience-friendly dialogue and kooky characters, but Integrity Productions' version gets stuck in a frumpy rut almost immediately—and, save for the brief comic intervention of John San Nicolas and Casey McFeron as lusty Spaniards, it stays there. Theater! Theatre!, 3430 SE Belmont, Thurs-Sat 8 pm, Sun 4 pm, $5-15

Dance

Modern Garage Movement Tour
Dances made and performed in garages, from NY choreographer Jbird Leary. Hosted by Miss Georgia Less Hussey, and joined by monologist Joe Vonappen. New American Art Union, 922 SE Ankeny, 231-8294, Fri 8 pm, $5

Comedy/Improv

Good Riddance!
The Brody crew bid an improvised farewell to longtime members Nate Halloran and Adam Higgins. Brody Theater, 1904 NW 27th, 224-0688, Sat 8 pm, $7-10
