Metamorphoses
Mary Zimmerman's script is a clever adaptation of Ovid that injects a modern humor and panache into the old myths. ART's gifted ensemble, under the steady-handed direction of Randall Stuart, exercises the restraint needed to make the script work, allowing nary a hint of cheap sentimentalism to mar the production. Taken as a whole, the showā€”an array of scenes that range from funny to heartbreakingā€”has a gorgeous, poignant depth to it, resulting in a surprisingly moving production. AH Artists Repertory Theatre, 1516 SW Alder, 241-1278, Tues-Thurs 7 pm, Fri-Sat 8 pm, Sun 2 pm, 7 pm, $15-40

Orestes
Brush up on your Euripides at Classic Greek Theatre's production of Orestes, which includes costumes based on styles of the Trojan War era, whatever that means, and music by Sarah Dougher. Reed College, 3203 SE Woodstock, Thurs-Fri noon, Sat-Sun 4 pm, through Sun, $10-20

Reefer Madness
If you've seen the 1936 anti-pot film Reefer Madness!, then you're familiar with the over-the-top blend of hysteria and misinformation that characterizes the movie. The musical version does the film one better, keeping the public service announcement format while upping the cheese factor by introducing some spirited song-and-dance numbers to the mix. The Stumptown Stages cast does a great job with the material; spotty sound and lighting do an unfortunate disservice to an otherwise entertaining production. AH Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center, 5340 N. Interstate, 235-1101, Thurs-Sat 8 pm, Sun 2 pm, $22-25

Run That By Me Again
The Brody crew improvises the life story of a character, and then examines how that life might change under different circumstances. Hilarity ensues. Brody Theater, 1904 NW 27th, 224-0688, Sat 8 pm, $7-10
