The staff/owners (?) are very friendly. The scones are awesome.
Lots of love goes into the food here.
Finally walked down the street to have breakfast. It was almost 9 AM and the restaurant was empty except for two tables. We told the "friendly owner" that 4 adults and one child would be dining. The owner told us with a bit of a 'tude that they normally don't sit people until their full party has arrived. That's fine and I can respect that policy, however, spare me the attitude. The restaurant was empty and people weren't knocking down the doors to get in. The food was lame and the portions minimal at best. What's up with no kids' menu? Pancakes, bleh. Their homemade bread, weak. Service was solid with the exception of the forced politeness. It's so obvious when hipster wait staff have to be super-nice to the general public. It comes off as strained. Since the place is so tiny the wait staff are constantly up in your grill every 45 seconds. At least Bad Ass Video is gone...
Overrated and average but the pork belly was good.Bunch of "hippies" hang out there.
I put Toast up there with Jam, Genies, and Zells for SE spots... only this one keeps the menu simple. The entire breakfast menu looked great, but I took the special -- a hanger steak sandwich with shreds of aged white cheddar and romaine and a side of their 'hash browns'. My gf had their version of a eggs Benedict... housemade sausage patty with wilted kale and a near perfect hollandaise over egg. The muffin resembled a freshly made crumpet, but I wasn't sure. Both the hash browns and sausage were perfectly paired with fresh thyme, sage, etc. Didn't have any of the breakfast cocktails, but they seem to stack up against many of the usual suspects.
