Turbulence is a dance about the economy. Therefore, it is scary and strange. Choreographed by Keith Hennessy and performed by current-events-centric troupe Circo Zero, the “collaborative failure” includes roughly a dozen dancers who stretch, writhe, and fall like the dollar. At moments in the piece, the dancers’ faces are wrapped in gold-sequin fabric that hangs like glittering detainee bag-masks. Together, the dancers form human pyramids and body piles and roil in clumps like hell-bound figures from “The Garden of Earthly Delights.” “You lied!” sings the group, in a plaintive melody to accompany the movements. “You made a fucking killing!” While the group created the piece before Occupy started, its message will surely still hit home in September.
