* Ellen George
This perfect little Spring show sprouts intimate Sculpi gestures. George's sea urchin and jewelry inspired creations are playful, delicate, and display an unbelievable eye for color. PDX, 604 NW 12th Ave, 222-0063, Through April 3

An Experience in Depth
Tired of getting high and wandering around the NW aimlessly? Well put this in your pipe and smoke it: a brand new 3-D center just opened up with all kinds of trippy images, eye-popping stereographs and supercool 3-D glasses. 3D Center of Art & Photography, 1928 NW Lovejoy, Fri-Sun 1-5pm, By donation

* Hold My Hand and I'll Take You There
Congratulations again to Harrell Fletcher who is in New York right now participating in the Whitney Biennial. Head out to the Art Gym to catch a mini-retrospective of his quirky, low-key community based projects. There are videos to watch, mural-sized photographs and limited edition posters, plus various publications that you can take home free. It's a fun show that clearly represents Fletcher's sincere sensibility. Marylhurst Art Gym, 17600 Pacific Hwy., 699-6243, Through March 31

* Slide Jam
Furthering their revitalization of the Resource Room, PICA has begun a series of Slide Jams--opportunities for local artists to get their work seen, and for the public to catch some new artwork. The series kicks off this weekend with the Mercury's Chas Bowie, Aili Schmltz, Jacinda Russell, and Eileen Finn. PICA, 224 NW 13th Ave, 242-1419, 6pm, Free to members, $3 otherwise

* Mel Katz
I've always found Mel Katz's work to be excruciatingly conservative and boring, in the same way that art professors who refuse to retire are provincial and outdated. I may have to reconsider my position, though, because his new cutout sculptures at Laura Russo look extremely fun, poppy, and energetic, and formally reminiscent of Elizabeth Murray's recent canvases, which have also received a shot of resuscitation and relevancy. Laura Russo Gallery, 805 NW 21st Ave, 226-2754, Through March 27
