Arnold Pander
Local comic book illustrator (for DC, Marvel, and Dark Horse) and animator Pander presents Line/Forms, a series of works inspired by Japanese brush work, including elaborate drawings "created with a single pen line." At First Thursday, 8 pm, Pander will be in attendance, creating one of his signature drawings to prove that his pen does indeed never leave the paper until the work is complete. Backspace , 115 NW 5th, 248-2900, Through June 30

Disjecta Defined
The hottest art party this month, and possibly any month ever, begins this weekend, as the newly revamped Disjecta packs the little-used Templeton Building to the gills with art exhibits, video installations, performances, music, and tons more cultural fun. See www.disjecta.org for the full lineup, and be sure to check our Feature Story on the event, page 11. Templeton Building , 230 E Burnside, 913-6884, June 4-19

Edition Schellmann
One of 2004's best gallery shows, Double Exposure at Pulliam Deffenbaugh, came courtesy of German print company Edition Schellmann, who publishes limited editions by A-list artists. Leach Gallery is hosting a round of prints they worked on with rad artists such as Richard Tuttle, Jack Pierson, Kiki Smith, and Dan Flavin. It's too bad that it's not a fully realized group show with more important works by these same artists, but we'll take what we can get, and this is infinitely more promising than 95% of the rest of June's goings-on. Elizabeth Leach Gallery , 417 NW 9th Ave., 224-0521, Through July 2

Snapshot Chronicles
The last show at the Cooley Gallery, Feast the Eye, Fool the Eye, demonstrated the ideals of realism in the pre-photographic era. This new exhibition, subtitled Inventing the American Snapshot, examines how ordinary Americans applied photography in their own lives around the turn of the century, when the medium first became accessible to the general public. The show features 70 entire photo albums, with images of mock gay weddings, all-female circuses, and Al Capone's mistress. Cooley Gallery at Reed College , 3203 SE Woodstock, 777-7790, Through July 11
