What we need is a "Go By Bike" sign. Get on that, someone.

I can't believe I'm reading this crap here.
"Who is Number One !!!??"

Are we in Jr High here? Is this a sporting event?

Hear that? I'm playing the world's tiniest violin

I also can't believe Paul Scarlett made them take this down. That is just plain silly, whether or not we are the Bike Capitol of America.

"True, the mural is a bit swaggering, but it had also become something of a landmarkβ€”a calling card and photo-op for people coming to experience "Portlandia.""

Yes, because we're very close to not being reminded on a thrice daily basis about Portlandia.

It's pro-bike so we should therefore give it a pass? It's some dude's private business. There'd be zero outcry if this was an unauthorized ad for a restaurant or club. I have more sympathy for well-executed graffiti. Ugh.

There is so much potential for that large canvas. Maybe RACC could commission a mural of actual forms of beings riding actual forms of bicycles through representations of our actual beautiful parks.

What a horribly-written article.

How is this not covered by freedom of speech? It's basically an ad for the bike tour company. If Pop Tarts can claim to offer a nutritious breakfast in their ads then certainly claiming to be the bike capital on the side of a building should not cause such a problem. Whoever's complaining about this really has too much time on their hands.

Disheartening to say the least. I love the sign! I sold my Mercedes three years ago after facing facts that global warming is real and I better do something about my own shit and bought a bike and started taking mass transit when necessary and never looked back. Thousands of miles a year in pollution savings for Portland, just from little ol me. To be a full-time cyclist in Portland year round is a personal sacrifice for the greater good. I'm not polluting the air I breathe and not contributing to the ever-growing summer haze created by the new en-masse exodus of people and their multitude of vehicles moving to MY beloved city. Yes, I can say that: born, raised, never lived anywhere else. I don't know what the bicycle malaise is, but I don't have it, I'm committed, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Cycling isn't just a hobby in Portland, it's a way of life. Why can't anyone find a picture of the old mural? There are hundreds and hundreds of old pictures of a kazillion other things from downtown.

Please wait...
