Tonight's the Last Thursday artwalk over on NE Alberta, and if you didn't already notice, it's ridiculously nice out— I'd put money on a lot of sunshine-starved folks gettin' out and into the middle of it.

While my two top picks of the night go to Oregon Painting Society at Appendix Project Space, and Future_Death_Toll at Little Field (the joint press release for those shows is posted in full after the jump), here's a quick rundown on some other shows opening tonight that sound worthwhile: Ampersand (map) is presenting the photo-realistic paintings of San Francisco's Jhina Alvarado in Forgotten Memories, combining a 1950s ad-sense with modern, anonymizing elements (Alvarado depicts models in classic poses, with rectangular black strips pasted over their eyes); this month Screaming Sky Gallery (map) brought on design collective Mixed Species to guest curate, and they invited Shawn Wolfe, John Black, and others; straying a few blocks off Alberta (map), False Front is showing Michael Iauch's Mountains, a series of process-oriented works (sheets of paper dragged up a mountain by the artist), in "an effort to physically experience the inaccessible body: Mountain," as Iauch writes in his artist statement; also off Alberta (map), the Goodfoot is presenting the work of Jesse Reno and Mike McGovern.

There aren't many specifics available about tonight's Appendix Space and Little Field shows, but I trust in the alley dwellers and their track record of solid programming. The press release, in its entirety:

Appendix Project Space presents: Cruisn', an installation and performance by Oregon Painting Society. Oregon Painting Society will be performing with collectively built instrument-objects, composing a witchy scene with uncontrollable synth action.

Little Field presents FUTURE_DEATH_TOLL: Mysterious, ubiquitous, and eminently destructive, the agentz of blaze orange known as FUTURE_DEATH_TOLL utilize vintage electronicz such as rotary pwnz, synthesizerz, and drum padz to perform back alley open-heart surgery on their most enthusiastic patientz.

Appendix Project Space is located down the South Alley between 26th and 27th off of Alberta St.

Little Field is located up the North alley between 28th and 29th off of Alberta.

Performances start at 8:15 PM.

Both galleries open at 6 pm.
