If you haven't already seen my Feature, "Still Life," on tonight's "The Presentation Show" installation-based opening of Portland Fashion Week, and you think you might go, add one more designer to those already profiled. Though their squiffy-as-fuck (but more or less in order now, I think) online schedule for the event has listed Sword + Fern as a participant for weeks, designer/proprietor Emily Baker wasn't solidly confirmed until well past our print deadline. I'm bummed I didn't get to feature her, but you should check her out before heading down to the shipyards tonight—both her jewelry line and her tiny, amazing store of thoughtful treasures in the 811 E Burnside building are exactly the kind of things happening in Portland that I've been struggling to have represented at the only, and increasingly high profile, event that has "Portland" and "Fashion" in its title. The Sword + Fern website is here, the blog here, and a Q&A I did with her in August is right here.
