POWELL’S BOOKS WINS CONTEST PRIZE OF STORE VISIT BY SUZANNE COLLINS, BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE HUNGER GAMES TRILOGY.

Scholastic, the children’s publishing company, announced today that Powell’s Books has won a store visit from Suzanne Collins, the bestselling author of The Hunger Games trilogy. Powell’s was selected as the winner of a Scholastic in-store display contest in conjunction with the publication of Mockingjay, the final book of The Hunger Games trilogy. Participating bookstores were asked to create a display that reflects the look and spirit of Mockingjay. Powell’s Books was chosen as the winner based on the overall creativity and style of their submission, and Collins will visit Powell’s City of Books on Sunday, November 7, 2010, from noon-1:30pm.

BUT! "Due to a hand injury, Collins will be stamping books rather than signing. She will stamp one book per customer." Which is actually kind of lame. My copy of Mockingjay already has a stamp, from the midnight release party. I would be more impressed if she were kissing the books. Kiss the books, Suzanne!

That picture up there is of the book-filled Cornucopia at the release party. Powell's has a few more shots on Flickr.

Those of you who have made it this far (hello, nerd friends!) might be interested in this Entertainment Weekly piece about the film adaptation. I'm hoping to see some Hunger Games costumes this Halloween....
