The next time you flick on your Xbox 360, you'll likely be greeted with 10 minutes of downloads.

The culprit? Microsoft has released an update for the console's online Xbox Live service that, well ... I won't say it changes everything. For most it doesn't even change "a lot." But it's still notable, if only for the fact that it makes everything look slightly different.

I won't go into the details of what all has been altered — Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb already has that covered — but I will say that it's nice to see such a stable update. It's only been up for a few hours, but we've yet to encounter mass Internet riots over missing textures or lost gamertags.

That said, I'd keep my helmet fastened. One missing byte and the jubilation of "Free Update Day" could turn into a bloody coup the likes of which haven't been seen since Bulgaria, 1944.
