After years of speculation from gamers as to why Capcom seemingly forgot their own virtual Jesse Ventura-alike after appearances in a string of misleadingly titled Final Fights and a small handful of other games, it looks like the man, the myth, the legend is making his return in the most awesome way possible: By appearing in the roster of Marvel Vs. Capcom 3.

Courtesy Capcom's official announcement, a description of Haggar that is short and straight to the point. Much like the man's moustache.

Mike Haggar is a former wrestler and mayor of Metro City. He often takes to the street to deal with Metro City’s gang problem.

Id vote for him.

Hit the jump for more from the announcement that could make comic fans as excited as Capcom lovers suddenly are.

Like previous character reveals, Capcom isn't content just offering us a fighter from one side of the Marvel/Capcom character bank. Thus, Mayor Mike Haggar appears alongside Marvel's most unkillable red head, Jean "Phoenix" Grey.

From the official announcement:

Mutant Jean Grey became the receptacle for the powerful Phoenix Force, granting her near god-like powers when it becomes fully active, as it unleashes the fury of the Dark Phoenix when Jean is knocked out with a full Hyper Combo gauge.

Comic fans will best recall Grey as the on-again, off-again love interest of Scott "Cyclops" Summers and the on-again, off-again sexual conquest of James "Wolverine" Howlett. She's died repeatedly, been resurrected repeatedly, and as a result has become the comics world's (occasionally) walking, talking poster girl for the industry's inability to actually lose any characters to the Great Beyond.

Also, she's got a totally bangin' body.

She looks pretty good after 14 deaths.

Capcom likely has a couple characters left to add to the roster, though after Haggar and Phoenix, one wonders exactly who might still be able to draw a "hell yeah!" from fans. Short of a trademark-defying cameo from Scrooge McDuck, or Aunt May sporting the Venom symbiote costume, I'm drawing a blank. Any guesses?
