Spring is quickly approaching, which means the Timbers will be commencing their first major league season—and guess what? The Mercury is once again throwing out our net in search of a Timbers blogger/reporter/commentator.

The successful applicant should have a shit-ton of knowledge about soccer and a deep love for the Timbers (that means you should also love them enough to be brutally honest). Having a background in sports media or reporting is an extra plus, but most importantly, you should be funny, smart, naturally curious about the inner workings of a MLS team, and able to hit deadlines, while being a snap, snap, SNAPPY writer. Expect to cover all home games, press conferences, player switcharoos, changes in uniforms, hot girls carrying axes on billboards—if its Timbers related, we want to read about it.

What do YOU get out of the deal?
• Press credentials for all Timber games, which gets you priority seating to ALL THE GAMES and special match-ups, as well as into the locker room!
• The thrill of working on the most popular blog in the Portland metro area, which is devoured by at least a quarter of a million happy readers per month! (I'm talking about Blogtown, guys.)
• Getting paid (admittedly not a lot, but it's something and there's always the possibility of even more money and more of your pieces getting published in the print version of the Mercury)! It's also an awesome way for the burgeoning sports writer to (as they say) get their foot in the door.

If you're interested (or know someone who would be great), EMAIL ME HERE and include one or two writing clips, a short note detailing how your experience makes you perfect for the gig, and if you'd like, a sample Timbers column as an example of how you'd strut your stuff.

The season is almost upon us, so send in your applications ASAP!
