Sad news: A 47-year-old woman was trying to cross Sandy Blvd at NE 91st Avenue last night at about 10:00 when an SUV-driver fatally struck and killed her, then fled the scene.

Portland police found the car, a 1993 Mercury Villager, ditched on 82nd Avenue and then arrested a suspect in the hit-and-run, 36-year-old Aaron Arrell. He's been charged with Hit and Run and Manslaughter in the First Degree.

Pedestrian crashes in Portland happen on the same streets over and over. Sandy, along with 82nd Avenue, Division, Powell Boulevard, Burnside and others, is one of the most dangerous streets in Portland—a place where we see the deaths of drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians again and again.
