Welcome to your April edition of Tonight: First Thursday. This month's west side artwalk offers a healthy mixture openings, bouncing between comics, photos, installation and more. And it's sunny out, so tonight should be pretty high energy. On through the jump to the highlights.

Floating World Comics will host the release of Michael Allred's Madman Atomica HC and Madman Giant-Size Super Ginchy Special. 20 NW 5th, 7-10 pm.

Sequential Art Gallery presents Witch Doctor: Under the Knife, "an art show detailing the birth and evolution" of the new comic Witch Doctor (slated for a June 29 release), featuring illustrations by Lucas Ketner. To boot, Witch Doctor will be coming out on Skybound, Robert Kirkman's new imprint, which just got a nice little write-up in the New York Times. 328 NW Broadway #113, 6-10 pm.

Hungry Eyeball has teamed up with Grass Hut for Brightness, a group show of both visiting and local artists, featuring Robert Bowen (SF), Rebecca Artemisa (PDX), Klutch (PDX), Natalie Phillips with Gabriel Decker (PDX), Jon MacNair (MI), Nicole Linde (PDX), and Ryan Thompson (PDX). 20 NW 5th, 6-9 pm.

For its last night in its current Everett Station location, Half/Dozen Gallery is hosting the closing reception for Chicago-based arts collective Adds Donna's installation, Black Moon. "Through the use of images, small objects, sound, and display methods, Adds Donna attempts to delineate an otherwise indistinguishable space — a cognitive place." 625 NW Everett St #111.

PDX Contemporary presents Bethlehem in Wax, Amjad Faur's "exploration of the photographic process in conjunction with the symbolism of the Middle East," which aims to depict the "harsh realities of appropriation, displacement and spatial elasticity, [which] have all come to define the political, geographical and psychological impermanence of occupied Palestine." 925 NW Flanders, 6-8 pm.

Elizabeth Leach is bringing in Sean Healy for Upstate, a series of works inspired by the ailing industries of the artist's hometown in Brasher Falls, NY (this'll sound familiar for those who've been keeping up with Healy). From the press release: "The works included in Upstate use typical symbols of aging masculinity (thinning hair, cigarette butts, etc.) to explore how personal and communal identities can become intertwined with industry and one’s professional life, and consider what happens when these things are drastically altered." 417 NW 9th Ave, 6-9 pm.

Last but not least, Fourteen30 Contemporary is hosting Tonal Sequence, a pop-up show of new collage works by Blair Saxon-Hill. The exhibit "examines photographic space by way of physical articulation and documentation of sculpture." 937 NW Glisan, 6-9 pm.
