Aside from hardcore comics nerds, Tintin's never been a big deal here—but in Europe, the character's huge. (And maybe just a teensy bit racist!) Now, after a budgeting delay or two, a couple of longtime Tintin fans, Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, are—as briefly mentioned in this week's feature—creating a new series of motion-capture films based on the character's kazillion exploits.

Here's the trailer for for the first movie, which is directed by Spielberg and produced by Jackson; the plan is for Jackson and Spielberg to switch jobs next time around. But the real draw here, at least for me, is the writing crew: Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim, Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) and Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) working off an original script by Sherlock and Doctor Who's Steven Moffat. That's more talented Brits working on the same thing than a... British... Union Jack with... chips... and Marmite... with... govnahs. Huh. It appears I know absolutely nothing about British culture.
