Sony's PSP successor now officially has a name and a price tag.

Support The Portland Mercury

"Vita" sports dual touchpads, dual cameras, GPS, motion sensitivity and an electronic compass. It comes equipped with online connectivity via wifi and Sony will also offer a 3G/wifi model that features internet access via AT&T.

The new handheld will go on sale at the end of the year. The wifi model will retail for $250 while the 3G-enabled version will set you back $300.

Remember when I reviewed the Nintendo 3DS
? Same rules apply. Cool tech is cool, but until Vita gets some awesome games, it's a doorstop.

Update:
No sooner do I type up my cynical critic bit, than Sony unveils footage of Vita's Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Hit the jump for a very convincing argument on the gadget's behalf.
