This week in scandalous parenting: A 50-year-old Brit known as the "Human Barbie" after $800,000 in cosmetic surgery procedures, is scandalizing the interwebs after giving her daughter a $9,850 voucher for a boob job for her seventh birthday. (She'll be able to redeem it after her 16th b-day, when it'll be legal for her to undergo the procedure.) Barbie, AKA Sarah Burge, defends it thusly: "Some people think it’s controversial and I get angry when strangers say I’m a bad mother because I don’t think there’s any harm in giving her this gift... Poppy is a normal kid who is good at sports and loves playing outside. Girls don’t want Snow White and Cinderella any more. They want to be WAGs and famous like Cheryl Cole and Lady Gaga. I’m just supporting her and making her dreams come true.” To be fair, the kid did ask for it, saying “I can’t wait to be like Mummy with big boobs. They’re pretty.” Aside from the fact that that is hella creepy, I'm hoping the hormonal rebellion will start brewing in this kid by the time she hits 11. For those of you who've never experienced it, being an 11-year-old girl is probably as close as it's humanly possible to come to being evil incarnate, and the mother figure usually does not fare well during this process. Alternatively, maybe she'll be so devoted to sports that she'll have an injury that warrants surgery and think twice about jumping under the knife voluntarily after experiencing how painful and un-fun having surgery is. Judge away, judge-y judgers.
