Today The Huffington Post launched one of two new sites that are rolling out this week. You can check out HuffPost Celebrity now for quick hits of things like the "Kardashian Bikini Show & Tell," photos of Taylor Momsen lap dancing an audience member, blog posts from Tracey Ullman and Jon Favreau, and a slideshow of celebrities and their accompanying quotes on awkward sex scenes—all of which will meet formidable competition from People, TMZ, et al. For the less celebrity obsessed, though, it's more of a preview of Wednesday's forthcoming launch of the much more interesting sounding HuffPost Culture, which in addition to being a one-stop aggregator for dance/opera/music/architecture/film/TV/photography news, will generate some potentially worthwhile original content:

The site will offer a number of ongoing features meant to explore the arts from all angles. For example, as part of a “Strange Bedfellows” series — following unexpected collaborations between artists — HuffPost Culture will offer an exclusive video collaboration between David Lynch and the band Interpol; “On Our Radar” will highlight emerging talent; and profiles of artists include an “Architects in America” series. HuffPost Culture will feature exclusive playlists from musicians and DJs, starting off with a summer playlist from Chromeo. The weekly “Culture Forecast” will serve as a handy guide to what’s happening in arts and culture. At launch, HuffPost Culture will offer different best-of-the-year-so-far picks, from music to art exhibitions. In addition, HuffPost Culture will present curated content from AOL sites such as Moviefone and HuffPost Celebrity, as well as the best arts coverage from around the web.

Speaking of new internet toys, I'm still on the fence about Google+. Seems like most of you were feeling sour grapes-y about it last time we checked, when commenter DeepCerulean made the salient point that "Like all social networking tools, it's only as good as the network...so unless you can convince all of your friends and family to leave facebook it's going to have a hard time getting off the ground..." Since then, I've gotten three invites to join. It kind of reminds me of how I did Friendster, skipped MySpace, but now am on Facebook. According to my every-other rule I can skip this one. Yes?
