His recent stuff's been phenomenally forgettable, but in his prime, John Woo was a force to be reckoned with: Cinematic violence has rarely been as ridiculous, beautiful, and exhilarating as it is in The Killer and Hard Boiled. If you've never seen those action classics before—or if, like me, you've just rarely had the chance to see 'em on 35mm and on the big screen—you've got a couple of options over the next few weeks.

Starting tomorrow, The Killer (1989) plays at PSU's Fifth Avenue Cinema. I want to live inside this trailer:

Showtimes are here.

And on July 26-27, the Hollywood Theatre's showing that same print of The Killer, preceded by a 35mm print of 1992's Hard Boiled, as a "Bullet Ballet: John Woo Hong Kong Action Double Feature." Reminder: Hard Boiled is insane:

Showtimes are here.

That's a lot of John Woo, a lot of Chow Yun-fat, and a whole lot—I would estimate somewhere around 400,000 billion?—bullets. You should be excited.
