It seems like longer than a year ago that I first attended a Smalldoggies reading, but the series has grown so much since then. After two venue changes the series has found a permanent home at The Blue Monk on the second Tuesday of every month hosted by founders Carrie Seitzinger and Matty Byloos. The pair has produced several chapbooks, attracted caliber readers to Portland, and maintained a stellar website full of columns, interviews, stories, and reviews by notable writers from Portland and beyond. In addition they've been producing quality work themselves and contributing to Portland's many readings.

In celebration of their first year, tonight Smalldoggies has invited 19 readers to share one piece each for a marathon performance. The lineup reflects the camaraderie and congealing of the Portland poetry scene, featuring notables from other local magazine and small press entities such as Poor Claudia and Housefire. The event begins at 8:00 p.m. at 3341 SE Belmont with musical guest Soft Paws . It is free as always, with donations appreciated.
