With all the other stuff going on in the city and the world right now, it's easy to forget the important stuff—like the Breaking Bad season finale this coming Sunday (AMC, 10 pm)!!

I will HAPPILY bust anyone in the chops that tries to tell me Breaking Bad isn't currently the best show on television. (Fuck you in the a-hole, Game of Thrones! ... sorry.) And this season has been a crazy, careening runaway train ride, with Walt getting dragged deeper and deeper into the world of the Mexican cartel, Jessie fighting his own addictions/grief while being driven to murder, Skyler's inclusion into the drug game, and brother-in-law Hank's crippling run-in with the cartel as he creeps ever closer to Walt's secret. OH, AND THEN THERE'S GUS. This Sunday's season finale promises a battle royale between this magnetic drug boss and Walt/Jessie—and I cannot wait. There's an interesting interview with Giancarlo Esposito (Gus) in the A.V. Club... here's a clip.

For me, the uplifting part of Breaking Bad and what it sheds light on is where we’re at right now in our world, where people would do something so desperate to save their families or provide. For me, that’s the essence of Gus. He has a family. Yes, they’re in an illicit business, they’re making blue meth, but this is his family. And because his moral standards are so high, one of the reasons why he takes out Victor in episode 401 is not just to send a message, but because Victor made a mistake and he didn’t cover his tracks, and the whole family became at risk.

Sunday, AMC, 10 pm. Don't miss it.
