I won't pretend to speak for the 99 Percent, but according to a new Washington Post/Bloomberg News poll, a full 68 percent of Americans now support raising taxes on households with incomes over $250,000. That includes 81 percent of Democrats, 67 percent of independents, and even 53 percent Republicans.

That's about as close to a consensus as you're gonna find in American politics these days.

So, with more than two-thirds of Americans supporting a tax hike on high earners—a majority of both parties—and the Occupy movement galvanizing frustration over the abuses of the wealthiest one percent, you'd think more of our elected officials might fight more aggressively for exactly this policy, wouldn't you? I mean, politically, it would be stupid not too, right? Right?
