Let's go back in time to when short shorts ruled and all the tough girls wore roller skates—no, not to the '70s—back to June 2011 when the Break Neck Betties won the coveted Golden Skate as season six champions. They're back to defend their title at the season opener on Saturday with the first two bouts of the Rose City Rollers' home team season. First up is the #3-ranked Heartless Heathers taking on the Guns N Rollers. GNR was improving by leaps and bounds last year, and rumor has it they've won off-season scrimmages against the top-ranked Betties and High Rollers. With a great-looking roster (pretty!) that includes Derby News Network's Rookie of the Year Scald Eagle, everything seems rosy for the rockstars in Guns N Rollers. Especially considering the Heartless Heathers have a slew of new teammates and a co-captain out with a broken leg, but who knows, the Heathers are notoriously wily and they sure like to win. The second game pits the Betties against the High Rollers. Veteran skater Cadillac is back on the Betties and the High Rollers have jammer extraordinaire Sully Skullkicker back on their roster. It's going to be a good 'un, I say.
