Linda Austin mid-dance in A head of time
  • Linda Austin mid-dance in A head of time

Last week Linda Austin premiered her hybrid dance/installation/performance piece A head of time, and it is proceeded this weekend with an incredible mishmash of shows, including, although not limited to: a maturely pregnant woman (Tahni Holt) dancing to music by the Decemberist’s bassist (Nate Query); a BodyVox performance choreographed to a screening of When Harry Met Sally (no, I do not really know what to expect); and a performance by the Northwest’s “premiere” hip-hop (again, I do not really know what to expect) company. Hit the jump for the complete lowdown.

Northwest Ladies of Experimental Dance All Star Explosion. A benefit for Tahni Holt's (Holt is one of the founders of FRONT dance magazine, as we've mentioned before) piece Sunshine. Also appearing is Conduit Dance co-founder Linda K. Johnson, and Amy O/tinyrage—who you may know from her two performances at TBA, or from her collaborations with Reggie Watts. This should be a great show. March 31. 8pm. mOuth. 810 SE Belmont. $15-100.

Here's Holt performing an excerpt of Sunshine last month at New York's Movement Research Center:

The Detail, which we're told is one of the bigger hip-hop dance troupes in Portland, performs their piece Around the World Through the Movement of the Detail. It'll be an adults-only affair, so maybe keep that in mind. March 30, 31. 7 pm. PCPA. 1111 SW Broadway. $15-25.

They have this promo video, which I kind of love, zebra pants and all. I'll save you the description; just watch this:

White Bird presents Israeli choreographer Yasmeen Godder and her piece Love Fire, a work on gender roles set to Strauss's Danube Waltz, and other classical waltz pieces. March 29, 30, 31. 8 pm. Lincoln Hall, Portland State University. 1620 SW Park Ave. $20-30

Promoting their upcoming premiere The Cutting Room, Bodyvox will dance a portion of it alongside When Harry Met Sally. The Cutting Room is described as a blend of "action films, comedy, drama, and sci-fi," and is apparently also inspired by the classic Nora Ephron romcom. Sounds like a train-wreck of influences, but Bodyvox are masters of the light touch, so it should at least make for a playful evening. March 31. 7:30 pm. Hollywood Theatre. 4122 NE Sandy Blvd. $10

Lastly, on the educational side of things, Conduit Dance kicks off their Dance Uncovered lectures series this week, with a discussion with the arty/surreal company bobbevy. March 31. 3 pm. Conduit Dance, Inc. 918 SW Yamhill Ave, Suite 401. $5
